hotel rheinsberg „haus am see”, rheinsberg, 2001

design hotel for the disabled.

client: fürst v. donnersmarck–stiftung

the worldwide first 4-star design hotel for people with disabilities which is situated directly at the lake has 110 rooms and a big public area with a restaurant, bar, bowling alley, fitness centre, huge swimming pool with sauna, steam room and physiotherapy, children’s room and many more.

curvilinear design elements lead the guest through the hotel. the lighting concept of direct and indirect lighting also serves better orientation for the vision impaired and is partly integrated into furniture elements. a worldwide search came up with special materials that fulfil all functional requirements but have a highly creative aesthetic, while a mediterranean colour scheme enhances a positive atmosphere. the philosophy of this concept was to create a hotel which optically does not in any way remind of a hospital or a hotel for people with disabilities.

awarded with the first prize for best interior design at the coredesign awards 2002.
